David Goodsell, PhD, affiliated with the Scripps Research Institute and the Protein Data Bank, uses his captivating watercolors to breathe life into the realm of biology, not usually seen in conventional instructional tools. Students gain a unique insight into the intricate world of complex cells through his art, distinguished by organic shapes, vibrant hues, and unwavering scientific precision. Goodsell's artistic prowess served as the impetus for a dynamic collaboration with 3D Molecular Designs, spanning over 15 years. This partnership not only produced a series of outstanding educational posters but also nurtured a truly remarkable working relationship. We're thrilled to continue this collaboration in our upcoming Modeling Infection and Immunity course this summer!

3D Molecular Designs has enjoyed a long and productive collaboration with David Goodsell over the past 25 years. Biology teachers will be familiar with David and his many contributions to biological science education in the form of his Molecule of the Month postings - visited by ~300,000 students per year- and his many watercolor paintings of Molecular Landscapes. David’s resources have proven to be invaluable to us in our Science Olympiad Protein Modeling event and in our various NIH-SEPA projects over the years.

That collaboration is set to continue with current our NIH-SEPA project focused on infectious diseases. Stay tuned for new teaching tools inspired by David’s Superbugs poster and his many cellular landscapes related to this topic.
