Turn Molecular Biosciences into Tactile Modeling Experiences
with Modeling the Molecular World
Modeling the Molecular World (MMW) is the perfect starting point for bringing molecular models into your teaching. Modeling the Molecular World is your exploration into using physical models to make the molecular world accessible for your students. Throughout the week, you’ll experience what it feels like to learn with models first! Ideas for how to model with your students will immediately pop into your mind – and meld with your table-mates' ideas and presenters’ tips and techniques.

Modeling the Molecular World Is the Best Place to Begin Using Models
During this week-long course, you will:
- Learn practical strategies for using models as called for in the NGSS, with a focus on student-centered sensemaking rather than teacher presentations.
- Explore core molecular bioscience concepts, from water and intermolecular forces to protein structure and function, membranes, DNA structure, and the flow of genetic information, through interactive models that help students connect macroscopic phenomena to molecular mechanisms.
- Practice specific moves for modeling pedagogy: with students exploring models, posing their questions, proposing solutions, using models for explanation and argumentation, and revising their theories as their thinking changes.
- Bring home a 1-group introductory set our interactive kits and dynamic models (a $900 value), so you can immediately apply what you learned with your own students.
- Build confidence in teaching molecular biosciences, even if this content has felt abstract or intimidating in the past.
By the end of the week, you’ll have access to slide decks, other resources and lots of ideas you can use right away to make modeling a core practice in your classroom, not a one-off activity.
"Modeling the Molecular World has been so beneficial to me for my students. It has allowed these microscopic complex systems to be brought to life in a way where they can manipulate the pieces, deepening their understanding in a fun way."
