Instructions
Create a schematic model of an antibody.
- Watch the video from the Center for BioMolecular Modeling.
- Use the green clips with posts to represent the disulfide bonds between the heavy chains and between the heavy and light chains.
- Enhance your model with found materials to indicate the following:
- N- and C-terminal ends of each chain
- The 12 immunoglobulin folds that make up this protein
- The two antigen binding sites
- The disulfide bonds that connect the four chains together
- The hinge region of the protein where it is maximally flexible
* Create a legend or model description to explain your enhancements.
Fold the mini toober into a model of a nanobody based on 7KKJ.pdb.
- Watch the video.
- Use a scale of 1 cm per amino acid.
- Use Jmol or another molecular visualization tool to see the 3D shape.
- Enhance your model with found materials to indicate the following:
- N- & C-terminal ends of the protein
- Arrows on each strand of beta-sheet indicating N to C direction of backbone
- Identify parallel and antiparallel beta-sheet strands
- The two cysteine amino acids (Cys22 and Cys96) that form the disulfide bond connecting the two beta-sheets
* Create a legend or model description to explain your enhancements.
